Last February at the New York Toy Fair, Schleich unveiled their North America Volcano Playset and us dinosaur collectors spent nearly a year anticipating its release. It’s priced around $100 and, while that may not be in everyone’s budget, it’s well worth it. At nearly two feet long, over a foot tall, and weighing in close to fourteen pounds, you can’t say you aren’t getting what you pay for. It also comes with two dinosaur models; stegosaurus and an exclusive blue T-Rex! A full review of this playset is in the works but today I’m going to take a closer look at this fantastic Tyrannosaur. I confess that most of my excitement revolving this playset was in regard to this piece and was reminded of that when I finally got to hold him in my hands.
So let’s take a look at this blue beauty…
While many of us have Schleich’s green version of this T-Rex or their red Wal-Mart exclusive, this one puts them both to shame! The striking blue colors and patterns make it totally stand out and I couldn’t resist putting the three together for comparison.
I should mention that Schleich did make a golden version of this model as well but my understanding is that it was only sold in Europe. Finding one of those on eBay is rare and will fetch about as much as this entire playset! That being said, it’s going to be quite a while before my Schleich T-Rex’s go from being the Bee Gees to The Beatles.
Hopefully, Schleich will eventually release this dinosaur on its own as it’ absolutely beautiful and displays well with their previous versions. Special thanks to my buddy, David Albaugh, for loaning me this stunning model for photos!
